SOCIAL: THROW AWAY CULTURE

What should we do about our defective products? In this day and age people see a defect on their purchased item and they instantly assume that it should be thrown out. I am here to argue that this is possibly the worst thing that one can do. I think that these items accumulate in the land fills and these items do not biodegrade for an extremely long time. Animals and wildlife get implicated from our human waste. These things do massive damage to our environment which then affects the food chain. If our food chain is significantly impacted, how would affected species survive? How would we survive if those affected in the food chain were insects like bees or animals like cattle. Our waste can cause real existential damages to the ecosystem. This is why we should all look at a greener more sustainable option. I think the solution to our throw away culture is to have actual repair centers servicing the products. The benefit of having such repair centers is the fact that customers will trust the brand more as it is repairable. Having goods that are repairable can develop good will for the users. This is what is called reliability and brand continuity. Customers should be able to have access to repair centers. If you are producing goods, what is it to have a local authorized repair center? It should be a responsibility of a producer or manufacturer to offer these services. The downside is that these repairs could be extremely expensive but it can be a revenue stream for a company. I think society is not over our throw away culture. In the future I would like to see more affordable repair services for consumer goods. This is a duty that producers should see as they are providing products in mass. Although, another alternative is that goods can be produced in a modular fashion. Producing goods like this could reduce the amount of waste or disposables. Modular design is a concept that takes the whole of a product and breaks it down into several parts. For example, a computer. This product could be broken down to a motherboard, GPU, CPU, Ram, HDD and power source. Doing modular design is sustainable and it will save our planet. Next time you think that something is broken, think about what you are putting in the land fill, think about the ecosystem and think about your kids. In short ask yourself what future do you want to share with the world? Then consider getting a repair in a repair center.
